Off-grid holiday house Stador

The journey began as a master’s thesis titled “Conceptual Design – Revitalization of Stador Mountain Pastures,” where I proposed a revitalization plan for the declining Stador mountain pasture above Tolmin. This area, once vibrant with life, had seen its traditional ways fade away. My thesis explored the broader context of Slovenian countryside, which has experienced rapid growth fueled by tourism. While visitors have breathed new life into forgotten places and bolstered the local micro-economy, there are also challenges to managing such unpredictable development sustainably. After graduation, we embarked on a low-budget renovation of one of the old houses on the pasture, transforming it into a holiday home that embraces slow living and self-sufficiency. The house, which I designed and renovated with the help of my family, embodies this philosophy and serves as a testament to simple, sustainable living. What began as a passion project has evolved into a welcoming retreat for outdoor enthusiasts, offering a unique space that reconnects people with nature and the slow pace of mountain life.
